BOSTON – Maintaining momentum from last weekend's impressive showing in Rhode Island, the UMass Lowell track and field team excelled at the Battle in Beantown Saturday afternoon at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center.

The men's side was led by sophomore Luis Cadime (Lowell, Mass.), who finished in second in the shotput with a 14.42-meter toss. Just behind Camerato, graduate student DeReginald Walker (Rancho Cordova, Calif.) took home third in the men's shot put with a personal-best mark of 46'10.25", while freshman Jonathan Vixamar (Easton, Mass.) rounded out the group with a fourth-place toss.

The men's squad continued to find success in the field events, as graduate student Patrick Pang (Peabody, Mass.) picked up a fifth-place finish in the weight throw. A trio of River Hawk jumpers picked up top-eight finishes in Beantown, with sophomore Maxwell Davis (Stoneham, Mass.) taking sixth in the pole vault, sophomore Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) earned eighth in the high jump and junior Evans Oduro (Kumasi, Ghana) placed eighth in the long jump.

In the track events, the men continued to shine with three top-eight times in the 300 meter. Junior Thomas Jordan (Needham, Mass.), senior Joseph Young (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and senior Kashief Bogannam (Kingston, N.H.) all scored for the River Hawks, finishing third, fourth, and eighth, respectively.

To round things out for the men, graduate student Christopher Alfond (Ashby, Mass.) took third in the mile. Hot on his heels, Alfond's classmate Derek Holmes (Marshfield, Mass.) clocked in with a fourth-place time. Taking on the distance, junior Eoin Dooley (Stoneham, Mass.) secured fourth in the 3000-meter.

Lastly, the team of graduate student Chris Moran (Weymouth, Mass.), juniors Ryan Casebolt (Boxborough, Mass.) and Thomas Jordan (Needham, Mass.), and sophomore Adam Katerji (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took home eighth in the 4x400 meter relay with a total time of 3:20.98.

Senior Izzy Giesing (Bradford, Vt.) was the top finisher on the women's side, taking home first place in the mile with a time of 4:41.35. Joining Giesing with a top-eight finish, graduate student Jenna Solimine (Haverhill, Mass.) recorded a time of 4:56.36 to claim seventh in the race.

The River Hawks also had multiple top-five finishes in the other track events. Junior Avery Leydon (Woburn, Mass.) finished second in the 600 meter, graduate student Lauren Eddy (Grafton, Mass.) snatched fourth in the 300 meter, and graduate student Kaley Richards (Lowell, Mass.) finished fifth in the 800-meter race.

In the women's 4x400 meter relay, the River Hawks team of Eddy, senior Tatum Pecci (Tewksbury, Mass.), and sophomores Alexandria Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) and Madison Marsh (Dudley, Mass.) were able to finish in the top half of the field with a seventh-place finish.

Wrapping things up for the River Hawks, junior Mackenzie Doyle (Swansea, Mass.) took home sixth in the 3000 meter, and graduate student Sierra Rudolph (Gloucester, Mass.) secured sixth in the women's high jump.

Next up, the River Hawks return to the Track and Tennis center next weekend, Jan. 28-29, for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
