SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The UMass Lowell men's track and field program closed out a weekend of hard competition at the ECAC/IC4A Championships Sunday afternoon, with sophomore Michael Blake (Hudson, Mass.) and senior Joseph Gaudreau (Wilmington, Mass.) competing in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter events.
Blake opened up the afternoon for the River Hawks in the 100-meter after qualifying for the finals yesterday with a record-setting performance in the preliminary round. The sophomore kept his outstanding rookie postseason run going strong this afternoon, clinching fourth overall in the sprint even with a 10.71 finishing time.
Closing out his weekend with the 200-meter, Blake ran to a 21.86 time to take eighth in the field, missing his all-time fastest time by just five-hundredths of a second.
"Mike finished off his freshman spring season in excellent fashion this weekend - setting a school record and scoring in two events," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner.
Gaudreau rounded out the River Hawks weekend in Springfield, competing in the 400-meter finals. The senior pushed his pace in close field, finishing in 49.27 to come within three-hundredths of his personal-best time.
"Joey had a solid day today," said Gardner. "We're looking forward to seeing him at 100 percent next year."
The River Hawks take a quick break from competition before heading to Jacksonville, Fla. for the 2021 NCAA Regional Championships starting on May 27.
