LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell junior defenseman
Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.) has signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings organization beginning with the 2021-22 season.
"We are excited for Seth," said Head Coach
Norm Bazin. "He is a quality person that has developed and improved significantly over the past three seasons. He has represented UMass Lowell well both on and off the ice, and has worked hard for this opportunity. We wish him well and are excited to watch his continued development."
Barton was first drafted by the Red Wings with the 81st overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft. With that pick, he became the highest UMass Lowell draft pick since Ron Hainsey was selected 13th in the first round in the 2000 NHL Draft.
Barton appeared in all 20 games for the River Hawks during the 2020-21 season. He totaled two goals and nine assists for 11 points, tying for the team lead among defensemen. In the postseason, he registered one goal and two assists, including the game-winning helper in the double-overtime thriller at Boston College in the semifinals.
In three seasons and 83 games overall at UMass Lowell, he logged a total of seven career goals, 29 assists and 36 points.
