LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell hockey freshman
Henry Welsch (Lakeville, Minn.) has been named to the 2020-21 Mike Richter Award "Watch List," according to an announcement made by the Hockey Commissioners Association on Tuesday.
The Mike Richter Award has been given annually to the top goalie in men's NCAA Division I hockey since 2014. Former River Hawk
Connor Hellebuyck was the first player ever to earn the honor.
Welsch is currently 2-1 in net for the River Hawks in his rookie season. He has made 80 saves so far to boast a team-best .909 save percentage. He also leads the UMass Lowell netminders with a 2.45 goals against average.
The Watch List is currently made up of 35 goalies from across the country. A committee of voters, made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media, will pare this list down to approximately 15 names within the next two weeks and then ultimately choose the winner who will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four.
