River Hawks Kick Off New Season against America East Foe New Hampshire

Over a year since the squad's last competitive match, the UMass Lowell men's soccer team is set to return to play on Friday, February 26 at home against America East foe New Hampshire.
 
LAST TIME OUT
It has been 472 days since the River Hawks last played a competitive game. The team finished the 2019 season 9-8-1 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play. UMass Lowell earned the No. 5 seed for the America East Championship that season and upset No. 4 UAlbany in the quarterfinals before falling to No. 1 New Hampshire in the semifinals on November 13, 2019.
 
NEW FACES FROM NEW PLACES
The River Hawks welcome 18 new players this season from seven different countries around the world.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Sophomore Denis Petro (Michalovce, Slovakia) is the River Hawks' top returning point scorer after registering one goal and a team-best six assists for eight total points as a rookie in 2019.
 
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
The River Hawks will be led by a trio of captains in 2021. Senior Abdi Shariff-Hassan, redshirt-junior Owen Miller and junior German Fuentes will be tasked with those leadership responsibilities this year.
 
HEADING TO THE POLLS
The River Hawks were selected to finish sixth in the 2021 America East Preseason Coaches' Poll. The team received 34 points in this year's poll to place ahead of UMBC, Stony Brook and Binghamton.
 
KEEPING IT CLEAN
Last Season, UMass Lowell set a new program record with 506:32 consecutive shutout minutes.
 
HAWK THE VOTE
UMass Lowell has been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll for 22 weeks since 2016.
 
SPECTATORS
Due to health and safety considerations, spectators will not be allowed in-venue at Cushing Field Complex at this time.
