River Hawks Reveal 2022 Slate

12/22/2021 9:00:00 AM

2022 SCHEDULE (PDF)

LOWELL, Mass.—
With excitement building for the spring, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team and head coach Ed Stephenson announced the highly-anticipated 2022 schedule Wednesday morning.

"I'm excited for our guys to have a full schedule again. We've played more scrimmages this year to get both our sophomore and freshmen classes up to speed," said Stephenson. "We had several sophomores play last year as freshmen, but they had virtually no preparation going into the spring. So, we essentially have two freshman classes this fall. The scrimmages have been invaluable thus far, and I'm starting to see our younger guys mature physically and mentally."

The 13-game slate opens on the friendly confines of Cushing Field on February 12, as the River Hawks host non-conference opponent Quinnipiac for a morning matchup. UMass Lowell then heads out for its first road trip of the year on February 19, when they travel to in-state rival Massachusetts for a Kennedy Cup clash. The River Hawks then return to the Mill City to close out the month against Siena (Feb. 26).

"We'll have a challenging non-conference schedule to prepare us for conference season as we'll play top teams from the CAA, Patriot League, MAAC, NEC, and SOCON," remarked Stephenson.

The non-conference schedule continues with a Merrimack Valley showdown in North Andover, Mass., when UMass Lowell pays a visit to Merrimack on March 5. In its final test before conference play, the River Hawks welcome Sacred Heart to Cushing Field on March 12.

UMass Lowell opens America East action on the road against Stony Brook on March 16. The River Hawks then host Jacksonville on March 19 for a Saturday morning tilt, before hitting the road for NJIT on March 26.

"The America East Conference was highly competitive at the national level last year and I'm looking forward to the challenge this year," said Stephenson.

The River Hawks will enjoy a four-game homestand to cap the season, starting with three conference tests against UAlbany (April 2), Vermont (April 9) and UMBC (April 16). The team will celebrate its seniors in its final home game of the season on April 20 against Holy Cross, before traveling to Vestal, N.Y. on April 30 to close out the season against Binghamton.
