Box Score MIAMI, Fla. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (3-6, 0-0 AE) fell to the Ohio Bobcats 74-60 on Monday afternoon at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center in Miami, Florida.
Senior
Kharis Idom (Orlando, Fla.) led the team with 16 points. Idom added five rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. Freshman
Amaya Dowdy (Woonsocket, R.I.) scored 12 and added a team-high 13 rebounds for her first career double-double. Junior
Shamyjha Price (Pittsburgh, Penn.) picked up 11 points, adding two rebounds and one assist.
The River Hawks opened the scoring with a nice layup from Price but were behind 11-5 at the media break in the first quarter. Back-to-back baskets from Price and Sophomore
Erin Lofaro (Marlboro, N.Y.) brought the River Hawks back within four, trailing 13-9 with just over three minutes to play in the first. Price continued to provide a spark for the River Hawks, making her third shot of the quarter and forcing an Ohio turnover as UMass Lowell battled back. Despite early shooting struggles, the River Hawks shot 6-13 in the opening frame, but trailed 17-13.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats opened with a 5-0 run to push their lead to 22-13. The River Hawks responded with an 8-2 run led by back-to-back makes from Idom brought UMass Lowell within three once again. Ohio gained the momentum and opened a 35-23 lead late in the half and would take a 38-25 lead into the break. The River Hawks shot 12-27 for 44.4% from the field in the first half, but foul trouble allowed Ohio to take a double-digit lead at halftime.
The River Hawks started the second half with plenty of energy, scoring on their first trip to the offensive end. The team struggled to stop the Bobcat offense, however, and still found themselves down double-digits at the media timeout of the third quarter. Idom picked up a steal on an Ohio inbound pass and found Price, to cut the Bobcat lead to ten. Ohio would lead 55-41 at the end of the third quarter.
The Bobcats continued to roll offensively, and the River Hawks struggled from the floor. UMass Lowell trailed 68-48 at the media timeout. Idom found a rhythm in the fourth, scoring five points in the opening two minutes of the quarter. The River Hawks battled to the final buzzer but fell to the Bobcats 74-60.
Lofaro added ten points and four rebounds off the bench for the River Hawks. Sophomore
Jaini Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.) added six points and three rebounds.
