LOWELL, Mass. – Former Merrimack College head coach
Nick Barese joins the UMass Lowell Baseball coaching staff as an Assistant Coach, as announced by Head Coach
Ken Harring.
"Today is a great day for River Hawk Baseball. To have a person with
Nick Barese's track record available at this time of year, is a homerun for our program," said Harring. "He has all the qualities to continue the upward trend of River Hawk Baseball and we are very fortunate to have Nick on our team. We welcome Nick, along with his wife Ashley and daughter Camryn to the UMass Lowell Baseball Family."
Nick Barese enters his first year at UMass Lowell after serving seven years as head baseball coach at Merrimack College. He holds a 153-129 career record (.543) as he joins the River Hawk coaching staff.
"I want to thank Coach Harring for providing me with this opportunity," said Barese. "He's done an incredible job building this program and establishing a tradition of winning and developing leaders on and off the field. I look forward to helping contribute to the success of UMass Lowell baseball and I know this group can accomplish great things."
Coach Barese led Merrimack to the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Championship Game, the ninth-ever appearance in the title game in school history. Barese also saw seven players earn all-conference selections and two players earn three all-region nods each in 2019. He also coached the second All-American of his tenure and 10th in school history as well as a NE10 Co-Player of the Year. He has also worked with two of Merrimack's eight all-time MLB Draft picks, Joe Mantoni and Frank Crinella, both 2013 draft selections.
Building the program up since his first season as the head man in 2015, Barese capped off a run of four straight postseason appearances to start his tenure with a NE10 Championship in 2018, and the conference's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Tournament. It marked the program's first conference title of any kind since 1999 and first tournament crown since 1996. The victory delivered the program its fourth NE10 Tournament title overall.
Barese sits second in all-time wins at Merrimack, with 153 career wins as head coach of the Warriors.
