River Hawks Ranked Fourth in America East Commissioner’s Cup Fall Standings

BOSTON – With the first half of the academic year coming to a close, the UMass Lowell River Hawks sit in fourth place in the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. America East Commissioner's Cup standings, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.

The River Hawks' 103 points land them in fourth behind top-ranked UAlbany (150), second-place New Hampshire (144) and Vermont in third (134).

Through the fall, women's soccer led the charge for the River Hawks in the Commissioner's Cup standings, bringing in 41 points off back-to-back postseason appearances.

The cross country program fell close behind women's soccer, bringing in a combined 40 points. The men's and women's crew brought in 20 points each after claiming their second consecutive conference title.

Adding 14 points, men's soccer narrowly missed the postseason after earning four strong wins against Siena, UMBC, Stony Brook and Hartford.

Posting their best win record since elevating to Division I, field hockey earned eight points towards the standings after finishing their 2021 campaign with a 9-7 record.

The Commissioner's Cup annually recognizes the strongest athletic program in America East as determined by a scoring system that rewards a school for success both during the regular season and championship competition in the conference's 18 sports.

 The scoring system for the Stuart P. Haskell, Jr. Commissioner's Cup is as follows: In sports where regular-season round robin competition is conducted, the first-place institution in the final standings receives four points times the total number of teams involved in conference play. The second-place institution receives four less points; third place receives eight less points, and so on. Additionally, the America East (tournament) champion receives two points times the total number of teams participating in the championship. The second-place institution receives two less points; third place receives four less points and so on down to the last-place institution which receives two points.
