No. 2 River Hawks Set to Face No. 6 UNH in AE Semifinal

LOWELL, Mass. – The No. 2 UMass Lowell women's soccer team is set for an America East semifinal match against No. 6 New Hampshire on Thursday, November 4 at 7 p.m. at Cushing Field.

FOURTH STRAIGHT POSTSEASON
After finishing second in the league, the River Hawks earned their fourth consecutive America East postseason appearance. UMass Lowell's last title game appearance came in 2018.
 
ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS
Four River Hawks earned America East All-Conference Honors this season. Seniors Dunja Mostarac (Belgrade, Serbia) and Emily Nelson (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Ioanna Papatheodorou (Nea Erthraia, Greece) were named to the America East All-Conference First Team. Papatheodorou was also named to the All-Rookie Team. Mostarac and Nelson were two of three River Hawks tabbed to the All-Academic Team, along with graduate student Abigail Drezek (Cumberland, R.I.).  
 
Following the All-Conference honors, the league announced the America East Major Award winners. Papatheodorou was unanimously voted the Rookie of the Year and was also named Striker of the Year, becoming the first River Hawk to earn the honor. Mostarac was named Defender of the Year for the second consecutive season.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks enter Thursday's semifinal match after knocking off Maine on senior night in the regular season finale on Thursday, October 28 at Cushing Field. Goals from junior Anna Edson (Beverly, Mass.), Ioanna Papatheodorou, and Emily Nelson secured a 3-1 win for UMass Lowell.
 
ROOKIE LEADS THE WAY
In her rookie campaign, Ioanna Papatheodorou has made her presence known throughout the conference and the country. The freshman leads America East in goals (10) and points (20). She also leads the league in game-winning goals (6) and sits tied for third in the country in the category. She also sits third in the league in shots (52) and shots on goal (25).
 
AE FIRSTS
Ioanna Papatheodorou became the first ever America East women's soccer player to earn Striker and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season. She is also the first River Hawk to earn Striker of the Year honors.
