NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The UMass Lowell cross country team put up great times, as they took on the CCSU Mini Meet hosted by Central Connecticut State. The men's team finished in fourth, while also having a first-place finish in the sub varsity race. The women had a ninth-place finish, while coming in fourth in the sub varsity race.
"Both teams performed really well today," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "This was by far the best we have ever run at this meet as a team."
Leading the men's team was junior
Eoin Dooley (Stoneham, Mass.), who finished 16
th out of the 91 runners with a time of 15:20.4. Directly after him in 17
th was graduate student
Cody Moran, who came just shy of his personal best, posting a 15:20.4 time.
Finishing up the scoring for the River Hawks were sophomore
Joseph Young Jr (Dorchester, Mass.), senior
Joseph Walsh (Auburn, Mass.) and freshman
Landen Vaillancourt (New Ipswich, N.H.). All three members posted impressive career bests, with Young Jr. having a time of 15:25.4, Walsh reaching the mark of 15:26.0 and Vaillancourt cruising to a 15:29.9 time.
On the women's side, the River Hawks had three members finish in the top half of the 89 race participants, while also having a fourth finish in the top 50. Leading UMass Lowell was sophomore
Mary Yount (Northampton, Mass.), who posted a time of 10:32.3, netting her 38
th. Right behind her was junior
Allison Anusauskas (Auburn, Mass.), whose time of 10:33.3 set her personal best time, while also earning her 40
th in the race.
Rounding out the scoring for the women's team were graduate student
Amanda Baptiste (Taunton, Mass.), sophomore
Hannah Doherty (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman
Delaney Swanson (Swanzey, N.H.). Doherty and Swanson set personal bests with times of 10:40.9 and 11:00.0, respectively.
In the Men's Sub Varsity 5K, the River Hawks dominated the competition, having nine runners finish in the top 20, giving them a first-place finish. Scoring for the River Hawks was sophomore
Tyler Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.), who claimed first place and set a personal record with a time of 15:17.7. Right behind him in second place was sophomore
Paul Neilan, who also achieved a personal best by recording a time of 15:26.8. Coming in fourth was freshman
Nick Melisi (Natick, Mass.), who recorded a time of 15:33.7 in his first collegiate 5k.
Finishing up the scoring for UMass Lowell were two competitors hitting career bests. Sophomore
Tyler Parrado (Weehawken, N.J.) reached eighth place with his time of 15:50.9 and freshman
Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.) hitting a time of 15:58.9.
Finally, in the Women's Sub Varsity 5K, despite finishing in fourth, the River Hawks had five runners with personal bests. The first to finish for the River Hawks was freshman
Vivian Mac (Randolph, Mass.), who hit a time of 10:59.3. Directly after Vivian was graduate student
Kristin Hohenstein (Chelmsford, Mass.), whose time of 11:01.4 put her in the top-25.
Finishing up the scoring for the women's team were sophomore
Asaliah Mirambeaux (Lowell, Mass), who raced in with a time of 11:05.9, junior
Leah Rudolph (Gloucester, Mass.) with a time of 11:12.2, and lastly junior
Julia Hovasse (Burlington, Mass.) rounding everything out, hitting a time of 11:24.2.
The River Hawks take on the America East Cross Country Championships next Friday, October 29, in Durham, N.H.
