1/26/2021 4:20:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Ed Stephenson announced the addition of Patrick Emmer to his coaching staff on Monday. Emmer, who spent the last five seasons at Furman University, rounds out the River Hawk staff as assistant coach and offensive coordinator.

"We are thrilled to welcome Patrick into the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse family and the Lowell community," said Stephenson. "Patrick was raised amongst some of the finest leaders in our nation, and continued receiving exemplary mentoring throughout high school, college and his coaching career. He has been tutored by the greatest coaches in the game, and his knowledge and leadership skills will be a tremendous asset to the men in our program. Patrick has a commitment to excellence both on and off the field, and shares our holistic approach to coaching."

During his time at Furman, Emmer was elevated from volunteer coach to assistant coach, offensive coordinator and goalie coach. He coached a three-time All-SoCon goalie, a two-time All-SoCon midfielder and a College-Crosse All-Freshmen attackman in 2020. Under Emmer's watch, Furman's goals per game increased from 8.86 to 11.64 between 2018 and 2019. He also helped lead the Paladins to two SoCon Tournament appearances (2017-18).

"I want to thank Coach Stephenson and everyone at UMass Lowell for their determination in getting me into this position during such unprecedented times," commented Emmer. "I am thrilled to join a program with such a good culture that motivates their players to excel both on and off the field. Coaching young men with a will to learn and succeed is why I love this job so much, and I'm very excited and hungry to get back out there and do just that."

Emmer comes from a successful lacrosse lineage, as his father, Jack, was inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005 after retiring from Army as the NCAA's all-time winningest coach with 326 career victories. He also coached the 2002 U.S. men's team to the International Lacrosse Federation World Championship.

The Skaneateles, N.Y. native spent four years as a midfielder at Bryant University where he helped guide the Bulldogs to three Northeast Conference Championships (2012-14) and two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Emmer graduated from Bryant with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2015.
