BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell Track and Field teams put a wrap on what was a terrific indoor season, Sunday, with a solid day at the IC4A / ECAC Indoor Championships at the Track and Tennis Center in Back Bay Boston.

"We set, what, seven school records, numerous personal records and both the men and women had second place finishes at the conference championships," said UMass Lowell Track and Field Head Coach Gary Gardner.  "The fact that we're disappointed with second place says a lot and shows how far we've come."

Only a handful of River Hawks competed on the final day of the IC4A / ECAC Championships.  The coaching staff had given people the option of competing only if they wanted to after a long and intense indoor season had worn athletes down and with the indoor season starting at the end of the month.

"Everything looks good," said Gardner looking back at the indoor season now completed.  "The future looks good, we have a lot of talented athletes and i was encouraged by what we saw from the freshmen."

Gardner pointed to the freshmen sprinters and distance runners.  He sees a good deal of depth.  The season also saw the continued growth of the upper classmen.

The season saw senior Kaley Richards (Lowell, Mass.) and junior Derek Holmes (Marshfield, Mass.) emerge as dominant runners.

"Kaley is so talented and a terrific competitor," said Gardner of a woman who set school records in three different events.  "She's a competitor and nobody closes a race better.  Derek may be the most versatile middle distance and distance runner there is.  He can win anything from 1,000 to 3,000-meters."

Sunday junior Kyle Cloutier (Lancaster, Mass.) turned in a solid run in the 3,000-meters.  He punched the clock at eight-minutes, 27.47-seconds.  The time was four-seconds off his personal best.  He finished 24th in the event.

Junior Benjamin Drezek (Cumberland, R.I.) finished 31st in a time of 8:35.14.

Three River Hawks competed in the shot put, two on the women's side.  Junior Chloe Eressy (Centerville, Mass.) finished 13th with a throw of 44-feet, 11.5-inches.  Junior Jasmine McFarlane (South Yarmouth, Mass.) finished in 28th place with a toss of 40' 01.25".

Sophomore Hayden Dillow finished 24th on the men's side with a heave of 45' 10.75".

The meet brings the indoor season to a close.  The outdoor season is not far away.  UMass Lowell will be at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State March 27 and 28.
