SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: UMass Lowell enters the weekend with a 4-6 overall record after a 1-2 mark in the three-game series at Delaware last weekend. The River Hawks start their spring break road trip with eight games in the next 10 days. Junior right fielder
Vinnie Martin (Lodi, N.J.) continued his strong start to the season, hitting .455 in the series vs. the Blue Hens, which included five hits, a home run and three RBI. He leads all America East players with a .448 average on the season with a 1.324 OPS with six runs, two homers, five RBI and 21 total bases.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS:Â LSU enters the week with a 8-5 overall mark, the Tigers are coming a 6-3 win against Southeastern Lousiana on Tuesday. Daniel Cabrera and Cade Doughty each notched two hits apiece in the victory for LSU. Cabrera leads the team with a .372 average and a 1.053 OPS, to go along with 12 runs, two home runs, six RBI and 25 total bases.Â
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. LSU: The two teams will meet for the first time ever this weekend at Alex Box Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT:Â UMass Lowell jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, but could not hold on as Delaware battled back. The River Hawks got on the board in the second inning. Â A one-out walk and a freshmanÂ
Ryan Proto (Centerville, Mass.) double set the stage. Â
Nick Marola's flyball to right brought the runner in from third. UMass Lowell manufactured two runs in the fourth inning without the benefit of a base hit.  A combination of walks (three), hit batters (two), stolen bases (two) and an infield out produced the runs. 3-0, but it was not enough. Starter sophomoreÂ
Matt Draper (Lowell, Mass.) gave the River Hawks exactly what they needed.  A strong gritty start.  He threw strikes and let hitters get themselves out.  He retired the first six in a row and then set down three more after a lead off double in the third inning. The right hander ran into some trouble in the middle innings, but effectively worked out of it allowing a pair of runs on a single and a passed ball in the fourth.  Delaware tied the game in the fifth on an unearned run.  Draper gutted his way through the sixth inning, retiring the side after the first two batters got on. Draper's day was done after six strong innings.  He allowed just one earned run while striking out three. JuniorÂ
Trevor Thompson (Eastvale, Calif.) followed Draper to the mound and threw two hitless innings. He was one of a series of middle relievers who have pitched effectively for UMass Lowell in the first three weekends of baseball. Delaware won the game in the tenth.  A one out single, a couple of passed balls and a single to right field produced the run and ended the day. SophomoreÂ
Joshua Becker (Burlington, Mass.) took the loss, his first of the season.  The right hander went one and a third innings and struck out three.Â
GALLAGHER STEALS THE SHOW: Sophomore left fielder Robert Gallaher (Mullica Hill, N.J.) leads the team and America East with nine steals, which ranks tied for fourth in the nation. He registered 24 steals in his freshman season in 47 contests. His 0.90 stolen bases per contest ranks fifth among DI players nationally.
