3/23/2020 10:04:00 AM

BOSTON, Mass. (March 23, 2013) - UMass Lowell wins its first Hockey East Tournament Championship as goalie Connor Hellebuyck stops 36 shots and junior Derek Arnold scores the game's only goal at 11:09 of the third period sparking the top-seeded and fifth-ranked River Hawks to a 1-0 triumph over third-seeded and 17th-ranked Boston University.  The shutout is Hellebuyck's fifth of his freshman season and he is named the Tournament MVP.

The Championship is UMass Lowell's first in the 29-year history of Hockey East.  The team would add two more titles during the next four years.  The River Hawk win also ends the coaching career of Boston University legend Jack Parker.  Hellebuyck, forward Scott Wilson and defenseman Chad Ruhwedel were named to the All-Tournament Team.
