LOWELL, Mass. - After a monumental 2019 season that was capped off by the program's first America East regular-season crown, Head Coach
Danielle Henderson has her team prepared to take that next step in 2020. The River Hawks are set to begin the new season on Friday, February 7 against Fordham at the Houston Invitational, a five-game tournament hosted by the University of Houston.
Â
"I feel like this year's team is more confident," said Coach Henderson, the reigning America East Coach of the Year. "I feel like we're more on a mission. I think this is the first team we've had that they are actually actively pursuing something instead of just reacting to what happened, so that's the biggest difference I see this year and I'm really excited to see how that translates on the field this season."
Â
The River Hawks finished the 2019 season with an impressive Division I program-best, 15-3 America East record en route to the regular-season title. Overall, UMass Lowell finished with a 28-20 record, setting new Division I program record for total wins and win percentage (.583). During their playoff campaign, the top-ranked River Hawks made an appearance in the conference championship semifinals in only their second year of eligibility. Â
Â
This year, however, the River Hawks have their sights set on returning to Championship Sunday. With a roster that features 14 veterans, Henderson can sense the maturity and determination like never before.
