LOWELL, Mass. -
After a monumental 2019 season that was capped off by the program's first America East regular-season crown, Head Coach Danielle Henderson has her team prepared to take that next step in 2020. The River Hawks are set to begin the new season on Friday, February 7 against Fordham at the Houston Invitational, a five-game tournament hosted by the University of Houston.

"I feel like this year's team is more confident," said Coach Henderson, the reigning America East Coach of the Year. "I feel like we're more on a mission. I think this is the first team we've had that they are actually actively pursuing something instead of just reacting to what happened, so that's the biggest difference I see this year and I'm really excited to see how that translates on the field this season."

The River Hawks finished the 2019 season with an impressive Division I program-best, 15-3 America East record en route to the regular-season title. Overall, UMass Lowell finished with a 28-20 record, setting new Division I program record for total wins and win percentage (.583). During their playoff campaign, the top-ranked River Hawks made an appearance in the conference championship semifinals in only their second year of eligibility.

This year, however, the River Hawks have their sights set on returning to Championship Sunday. With a roster that features 14 veterans, Henderson can sense the maturity and determination like never before.
