BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Lowell men rarely seemed to hit their stride, Saturday, as the River Hawk team earned a second place finish in the team standings at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University.

"We just never got the momentum going," according to UMass Lowell Track and Field Head Coach Gary Gardner.  "We had a tough day yesterday and we got off to a tough start today.  We kept waiting for the other shoe to drop rather than being aggressive and going after it.  I was disappointed.  We tried not to screw something up instead of going after it."

All of that said, the River Hawks did finished second at the nine team conference championships.  UMass Lowell gathered 117-points.  Albany successfully defended its title with 171.5-points.  It is the 14 time in 15 years that the Great Danes have finished on top of the team standings.  New Hampshire was third and Stony Brook fourth.

"I say that I am disappointed with a second place finish, but look how far we've come," said Gardner.  "You only get so many opportunities.  You don't win it on paper, you have to go out and get it."

The River Hawks greatest strength on Saturday proved to be the sprinters.  UMass Lowell got strong performances in the 200, 400 and 500-meter events.

"They're great kids and great competitors," said Gardner.  "They're tough.  It the best group that we've ever had.  It's fun to watch.  I was really impressed."
