LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior goaltender
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) of the No. 11 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team was honored as Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for the sixth time this season, as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Wall, who is a candidate for the Hobey Baker and Mike Richter Awards, stopped 47 of 52 shots (.904 save%) in two Hockey East road victories over the weekend against No. 4 Boston College and Merrimack. He stopped 23 shots in the 3-2 win vs. the Eagles on Friday at Conte Forum and followed that up with 24 saves on Saturday night in the 4-3 victory at Lawler Arena vs. the Warriors.
"We are excited for Tyler to be recognized for his efforts this past weekend. He continues to be among the top few goalies in the country," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin. "He is proving to be a difference maker for us and we'll lean on Tyler and our other two seniors as we forward in this race to the end."
Wall has started 25 of 27 games this season for the River Hawks, posting a 15-5-5 record with a 2.09 GAA and a .932 save percentage, to go along with two shutouts. His 15 wins and 70% wining percentage are best of any league goaltender. His .932 save percentage ranks second in Hockey East and tied for fifth nationally, while his 2.09 GAA is fourth best among league netminders. He has amassed 30+ saves in 13 of 25 starts this season and has allowed two goals or fewer in 16 starts in his senior campaign.
It marks 11th time in his UMass Lowell career that Wall has been honored with the award.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Friday, February 14th against Northeastern. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7:15 p.m. The game will be streamed nationally and internationally via CBS All-Access.
