BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Lowell women's soccer defender
Abigail Drezek (Cumberland, R.I.) and field hockey forward
Jenna Chrabolowski (Manchester, N.H.) were two of six America East Student-Athletes to be named Presidential Scholar-Athletes, announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.
The award recognizes graduating student-athletes who compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate student. In addition to registering a 3.75 GPA for their college career, honored student-athletes must have received their undergraduate degree in the academic year they are honored and have attended their institution for a minimum of two years.
"These student-athletes represent the best of the America East Conference," said commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. "To achieve such a high GPA while balancing the demands of being a Division I student-athlete is truly impressive and we commend them on their achievement."
Drezek is graduating from Lowell with a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. The SAAC co-president accumulated a 3.968 grade point average as a River Hawk and has made the league's Commissioner's Honor Roll for two consecutive seasons. Drezek is also active in the community, having taken initiative in various service projects, including America East Food Frenzy and UML's Sustainability Night.
On the field, the defender from Rhode Island, played in a total of 52 games and earned 47 starts during her time in Lowell. As a junior, she served as team co-captain, recording 1,480 minutes to put her second on the team for minutes played.
Chrabolowski boasts a 3.90 GPA as a biology major at UMass Lowell. The forward, who appeared in five games for the River Hawks since transferring from LIU, was named to the America East Commissioner's Fall Honor Roll and received NFHCA National Academic Squad recognition as a junior in 2019-20.
The Presidential Scholar-Athlete Award was approved by the America East Board of Presidents in June of 2013 and implemented for 2013-14 academic year. In total, 43 River Hawk student-athletes have been honored as part of the program.
