LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Director of Athletics Peter Casey has officially announced the final tally of the department's United In Blue, United As One Campaign, which raised over $140,000 thanks to more than 500 donors during the month of November. Â
Â
"We can't thank all of the River Hawk Nation alumni, fans, friends, family, coaches and staff who participated in our United In Blue, United As One Campaign enough," Casey said. "During these extremely difficult times we are beyond grateful to everyone who contributed throughout this campaign to help our department and student-athletes, as we continue to fight through the impact of COVID-19."
Â
Donations to the campaign supplemented a wide variety of department initiatives, including the support of every athletic team, the Costello Campaign and the United In Blue Fund, which helps support the River Hawk Academic Center, mental health programs and, most recently, compliance with COVID-19 protocols that ensure the safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff.
Â
The campaign kicked off with a gift from an anonymous donor, who challenged all athletic programs to raise $5,000 to unlock a match of $2,500 per team. The campaign then continued to run throughout the month of November and many supporters chose to participate in this year's inaugural "Cutout Crowd" by having their image displayed in the Tsongas Center or Costello Center throughout the hockey and basketball seasons. This has resulted in the installation of over 500 cutouts to date.Â
Â
The entire UMass Lowell Athletics Department recognizes there is much more work to do to keep our teams safe, as we continue to prepare them to compete this winter, as well as this spring. We do so with the comfort knowing we have the tremendous support of River Hawk Nation. On behalf of all our student-athletes, coaches and staff, we say thank you.
