Lucas Condotta (Georgetown, Ont.) and freshman forward
Carl Berglund (Hammaro, Sweden) each scored a career-high two goals to pace the No. 11 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team to a 6-4 victory against RIT in the series opener on Friday night at the Polesseni Center.
Senior goaltender
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) recorded 25 saves, which included 11 in the third period for his 52nd career victory at UMass Lowell, which broke Dwayne Roloson's Div. I school record of 51 wins.Â
"It's a huge honor for me, Dwayne Roloson is a legend at Lowell and he had a great career," said Wall. "It means a lot that I was able to break his record, it just shows how far this team has come and how we have gotten 12 wins so far this year."
The River Hawks improve to 12-4-4 overall with the victory, while the Tigers drop to 10-8-3 overall. UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin notched his 199th career coaching victory in the River Hawks' win.
"You are always pleased to get two points on the road, it's a vital two points for us and I thought we got better as the game went along," said Bazin.Â
UMass Lowell scored three third-period goals to get the road victory with goals from Berglund,
Seth Barton (Kelowna, B.C.) and
Colin O'Neill (Odenton, Md.). O'Neill's tally with his fifth career shorthanded tally in his River Hawk career.Â
Condotta notched both of his goals in the second stanza. Freshman forward
Matt Brown (Wood Ridge, N.J.) and
Brian Chambers (Weymouth, Mass.) each notched two assists on the evening.Â
RIT opened the scoring in the game just 7:41 into the game on a goal by Shawn Cameron, but tied the game with his seventh of the season less than three minutes later.Â
Condotta won a game-high 10 face-offs on the night and finished the contest with three shots on goal.Â
Logan Drackett stopped 17 shots in the start for RIT in the first 53:07, while Ian Andriano recorded three saves in the final 5:07 of the game.Â
UMass Lowell returns to action for the series finale on Saturday, January 11th at RIT. Game time from the Polisseni Center is 5 p.m.Â
