LOWELL, Mass. – To continue their streak on the road, the UMass Lowell women's soccer team will travel to Providence, R.I. on Thursday to take on the Friars for a 7 p.m. game time.

LET'S REWIND…
This past week, the River Hawks welcomed Massachusetts in their home opener on Thursday, Aug. 29. The two teams battled it out in a double overtime contest that ultimately ended in a 2-2 draw. Co-captain, Veronica Morrier (Plaistow, N.H.) and Emily Nelson (Peabody, Mass.) were able to notch their first goals of the season against the Minutewomen.

Following Thursday nights tie, the squad made their way to Brown on Sunday Sept. 1. For an 11 a.m. matchup. The River Hawks were unable to come out on top, resulting in a 4-0 loss to the Brown Bears. Redshirt-junior, Lauren Huff (Brandon, Fla.) stopped a season-high seven shots in the loss.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence enters Thursday's contest with a 2-2 overall record after falling to Rutgers on the road this past Sunday. The Friars have recorded three goals during their four games this season, with two of them being awarded off of penalty kicks. The last time the River Hawks and the Friars met, was on the road during the 2017 season, where the River Hawks fell 2-0. Players to look out for are, returning junior Hannah McNulty and sophomore, Elayna Grillakis who lead the Friars in goals and shots for the 2019 season.

NOTABLES
Fabian Finds a Way
Sophomore Lily Fabian (Monson, Mass.) continues to be a key player in the offense, as she tallied one point during the matchup with the Minutewomen. Less than five minutes into the game, Fabian fed a long pass down the center of the field to Morrier, who put the ball in the bottom right corner of the net, setting the tone for Thursday night's game.

Fresh Faces
The freshman class continues to make an impact on the team, as Anna Edson (Beverly, Mass.) recorded her second career start for the River Hawks. Forward, Hildur Gunnarsdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) contributed to Sunday afternoon's matchup, when she recorded her first collegiate shot on goal, off a penalty kick opportunity. Gabrielle Weilding (Hopkinton, Mass.) and Cristina Blaya (Madrid, Spain) both have two recorded shots this season, as well.

BUILDING ON A HISTORIC SEASON
The team secured their first-ever bid to the America East Tournament, making their way as far as the championship game. After a stand-out 2018 season by the 11-member freshman class, tallying 17 goals and 44 points, it's no wonder three of them garnered America-East All-Rookie team nominations. Nelson, Dunja Mostarac (Belgrade, Serbia) and Kristina Bartsch (Pulheim, Germany), continue to thrive in the 2019 season, with Mostarac and Bartsch each tallying three shots over the four games. With a goal against the Minutewomen, Nelson continues her scoring streak from last year increasing her career total to eight goals and two assists for a total of 18 points.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
The next time the River Hawks will see home action will be on Saturday, Sept. 21 for a 7 p.m. matchup against UCONN, with a special nod to coaches for Coach Appreciation Night. Following their tilt with the Huskies, the River Hawks will see their first bit of conference action when they take on Hartford on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m., for a Youth Day celebration.

25 YEARS STRONG
This season the UMass Lowell Women's Soccer team would like your help in celebrating 25 years of River Hawk Women's soccer. The goal is to have 125 donors, which marks the 125th year anniversary of the University, donate $25 dollars to celebrate the 25th season of women's soccer. In the past, funds have been used for locker room renovations, enhancing the high-performance environment, and securing a more challenging out of conference schedule. Being at this point in history because of the previous 24 teams that have paved the way, the team continues to build the program and strive to higher goals, but they need your help!
