LET'S REWIND…
Last week, The River Hawks took on Harvard and UConn for their final out of conference games of the season. With both outcomes unfortunately falling in favor of the opponents, the River Hawks still showed they can be a top contender.
Â
Things looked promising for the squad when the River Hawks opened the scoring only seven minutes into the Harvard game. UMass Lowell was awarded a penalty kick after a foul was called on the Crimson, bringing sophomore
Emily Nelson (Peabody, Mass.) to the line who ripped a shot into the center of the net as the keeper dove left. In the end Harvard came out on top with a 4-1 win.
Â
After miscommunication in the first half of the match with UConn, the team trailed 1-0 at the half. Looking for some momentum, sophomore
Lily Fabian (Monson, Mass.) set a play in motion when she sent a cross pass to Nelson who was able to rip a header into the back-right corner of the net, equalizing the score 1-1. With the goal, the game went into overtime only to be ended two minutes later when the Huskies connected with the back of the net from 40 yards out.
SCOUTINGÂ HARTFORD
The Hawks headed into America East play last Sunday where they took on defending champions UAlbany falling 2-1 and bringing their overall record to 3-5-1 and conference record to 0-1-0. The Hawks have scored 12 goals over their nine games with senior Kaila Lozada earning an America East Player of the Week nod for her game winners earlier this season.
Â
The River Hawks have taken on Hartford a total of six times, only coming out with a win once during the 2015 season. The squad will look to improve upon their 1-5-0 all-time record against them after a 4-2 loss on the road in 2018.
Â
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
After a trip to Orono, Maine. to face off against the Black Bears, the River Hawks will return home for a matchup with UMBC at 3 p.m. on October 6. for a Breast Cancer awareness Pink Day celebration.
Â
BUILDING ON A HISTORIC SEASON
The team secured their first-ever bid to the America East Tournament, making their way as far as the championship game. After a stand-out 2018 season by the 11-member freshman class, tallying 17 goals and 44 points, it's no wonder three of them garnered America-East All-Rookie team nominations. Nelson,
Dunja Mostarac (Belgrade, Serbia) and
Kristina Bartsch (Pulheim, Germany), continue to strive in the 2019 season, with Bartsch tallying 10 shots and Mostarac recording five over the eight games.

25 YEARS STRONG
This season we would like your help in celebrating 25 years of River Hawk Women's soccer. Our goal is to have 125 donors, which marks the 125th year anniversary of the University, donate $25 dollars to celebrate our 25th season of women's soccer. In the past, funds have been used for locker room renovations, enhancing our high-performance environment, and securing a more challenging out of conference schedule. We are at this point in history because of the previous 24 teams that have paved the way for us, and as we continue to build our program, we need your help! Follow the link below for more details.Â
