LOWELL, Mass. -- UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Ed Stephenson announced today that the program has hired Matt Hudson as Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator for the River Hawks.

Hudson spent the last three season at the University of North Carolina, including last season as a Volunteer Coach and the previous two seasons as the Director of Lacrosse Operations. In 2017, he helped the Tar Heels to an ACC Tournament Championship to go along with an NCAA Tournament appearance.

"We hit a home run with Matt," said Stephenson. "He has a great knowledge base from his assistant coaching experiences, especially these past three years assisting and observing Dave Metzbower, a seven-time Div. I National Champion Offensive Coordinator. Matt has a great work ethic and tremendous enthusiasm. I'm really excited for our offensive guys, they have a tremendous opportunity to work with one of the top up and coming coaches in lacrosse."

Prior to UNC, he spent two years as Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Western New England University and he also served as an Assistant Coach at Springfield College during the 2014 season. While at Western New England, he was part of the 2015 team that won 14 games and took home the ECAC Div. III Championship.

"I'm humbled and privileged to have the opportunity to join the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse program," said Hudson. "I want to thank head coach Ed Stephenson, Athletic Director Peter Casey and the UMass Lowell administration for such an incredible opportunity. I'd also like to thank the athletics department and administration at University of North Carolina for three seasons with an amazing coaching staff under the direction of head coach Joe Breschi. I hope to contribute to the growth, continued achievements, and success of the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse program. I'm excited to help guide our student athletes in pursuit of academic and athletic excellence."

Hudson was a midfielder for four seasons (2008-2012) on the Springfield College Men's Lacrosse team. He helped guide the team to four straight Pilgrim League Championships, as well as four NCAA tournament berths. They owned a perfect 25-0 league record in his four seasons with the Pride.

"I am beyond proud of Matt Hudson and the incredible opportunity that he has at UMass Lowell," said North Carolina Head Coach and 2016 National Champion Joe Breschi. "He's an extraordinary young man who has built incredible relationships with players and has been a student of the game for more than six years, learning from the best in the business. We expect great things from him as offensive coordinator in the coming years."

He graduated from Springfield College in 2012 with a bachelors degree in Science in Movement & Sports Studies with a focus in Education.
