AMHERST, Mass. – Freshman
Mario Mora Perez (Liberia, Costa Rica) broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute with his first career goal as the UMass Lowell men's soccer team knocked off Massachusetts, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.

Mora Perez collected the rebound of a shot from
Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) and pushed it into the bottom right corner for the River Hawks (4-2-1) third consecutive win. With the helper Kauzlaric now has four on the season, including two in as many games.
"I thought our guys had a strong performance under difficult elements," remarked Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "Massachusetts was a difficult team to break down, but the team showed a lot of patience today and took advantage of the opportunities presented to them."

The UMass Lowell backline prevented Massachusetts (4-3) from getting off a shot on target, as the visitors recorded all four. The River Hawks also outshot the hosts, 7-6, and earned four corners.

Benjamin Wiemann came within inches of equalizing for the Minutemen in the 85th minute, but his header hit the crossbar and stayed out of the net.

The River Hawks open conference play next Saturday (9.28) under the lights of Cushing Field against UMBC.
