Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

River Hawks Clipped by Northeastern, 2-1

LOWELL, Mass. -- German Fuentes (Joroco, El Salvador) netted his first career goal to knot the contest in the second half, but Northeastern was able to answer and leave the Mill City with the 2-1 win against the UMass Lowell men's soccer team on Tuesday night.

Fuentes' rocket in the 56th minute from 35-yards out rang off the right post and crossed the line to send his team and the Cushing Field crowd into a frenzy, but less than 20 minutes later, the Huskies (2-2-0) retook the lead following a Benjamin Klingen header on a set piece.

"I thought we beat ourselves tonight, to be honest, remarked Head Coach Christian Figueroa. "We limited them to very few chances throughout the game and I thought the second half was better in terms of taking away what they were doing well. We had a lot of possession and momentum to create opportunities in their end, but in the end it came down to a few moments in the second half that we let them back in and gave them confidence."

The River Hawks (1-2-1) outshot the visitors, 18-5, including an 11-2 advantage in the second 45 minutes, however the teams each had three shots on targets apiece. Roko Prsa (Sisak, Croatia) led the way with five attempts, including two on net in the first half.

Klingen picked up the assist on Northeastern's first goal of the night as his pass in front of the net got deflected to Ryan Massoud, who was able to slide the shot past Patrick Gujic (Bjelovar, Croatia) to open the scoring.

UMass Lowell concludes its brief two-game home stand as they welcome Boston University to Cushing Field on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
