River Hawks Close Out Regular Season at Stony Brook

First Pitch
Riding a five-game winning streak, the UMass Lowell baseball team will head to Long Island for its final regular-season series of the season, taking on Stony Brook with games on Friday and Saturday. The Seawolves and River Hawks have split their last 10 decisions dating back to 2017, with Stony Brook holding a 16-14 edge in the all-time series. 

Heating Up
The River Hawks have not lost since May 4 and have been winners in eight of their last 12, with a 6-2 mark in May. In UMass Lowell's five-game winning streak the River Hawks are outscoring opponents 25-10, only allowing two runs in each game. The pitching staff has a 1.67 ERA in the stretch as well. 

Yes, We're Talkin' About Playoffs
Following the sweep against UMBC, the River Hawks clinched a berth to their second consecutive America East Championship, held in Vestal, N.Y. from May 22-25. Final seeding and schedule will be revealed following this weekend's action.

River Hawk Leaders
-Oscar Marchena paces the lineup with his .345 average, 59 hits and 34 RBI
-Ciaran Devenney, Steven Passatempo, Vinnie Martin and Cam Climo have combined for 18 of UMass Lowell's 23 home runs
-Freshman Robert Gallagher has swiped 19 bases to rank third in the conference 
-Joshua Becker leads the staff with his 4.04 ERA, while Nick Rand has 71 strikeouts
-UMass Lowell is batting .250 with an 6.40 staff ERA

Scouting Stony Brook
-The Seawolves enter the weekend has a 27-19 record, and leads the AE with a 14-7 mark
-Michael Wilson is batting .357 with eight home runs and 40 RBI
-Nick Grande paces the conference with his 63 base knocks
-Ben Fero has a 2.31 ERA, while Ben Clarke is 7-0 and Greg Marino has 66 strikeouts
-SBU is batting .279 with a 5.19 ERA

Oh man, Oscar!
Following his six hit, four RBI performance in the sweep over the weekend, OScar Marchena picked up his first career America East weekly award as he was named the Co-Player of the Week.

The Rowdys
On May 1,  Joshua Becker was named the Male Rookie of the Year at The Rowdys, UMass Lowell's athletic award show. 

Walkin' Home
Steve Passatempo's walk-off double to take the finale against the Rams was the River Hawks first extra inning victory this season, and the first walk-off victory for the team since March 23, 2018 on Mark Tumosa's walk against UAlbany. 

Thieves in the Night
With Mark Tumosa's steal of home at Boston College, the redshirt junior became the third player with three or more steals in a single game this season, joining Robert Gallagher's performances. This marks the first time since joining Division I that two or more River Hawks have swiped at least three bases in a game. 

Three's Company
In the River Hawks's doubleheader sweep of Binghamton, Ciaran Devenney connected on three home runs, including two in the second victory. The junior is now the team leader with five homers, and he drove in seven runs during the two games. His performance earned him America East Player of the Week honors.

Career Day For Nick
In UMass Lowell's 12-2 win to begin the Binghamton series, Nick Rand struck out a career-high 10 batters in his seven inning performance.

Classic Gallagher
After his four-hit performance in the 11-8 win against UAlbany, Robert Gallagher was named the America East Co-Rookie of the Week. The infielder batted .571 on the week and recorded two RBI with four runs and three stolen bases, all coming in the win. 

The Big 3-0
With his solo home run at UConn, Steven Passatempo (Medford, Mass.) become one of just three players in program history with 30 or more homers in their career. The senior currently ranks third all-time with his 30 long balls. 

You Shall Not Pass
In the win against Marist, eight River Hawk pitchers combined to not allow a walk. This marks the first time that the opposing team has not recorded a free pass against UMass Lowell pitchers since May 19, 2018 against Stony Brook, a run of 24 games. The River Hawk hurlers accomplished the feat twice in 2018 and six times at the Division I era.

To The Fifth Power
In the series win at UMBC, UMass Lowell outscored the Retrievers 10-0 in the fifth innings. In the first two contests, the River Hawks were up 3-2 and tied 2-2, before scoring five and four runs in the fifth inning, respectively. 

Forever Young
Following posting a .583 batting average in the UMBC series, Michael Young was named the America East Player of the Week on March 26. Including a 5-5 day at the plate in the River Hawks' second win of the series, Young recorded a 1.167 slugging percentage, four runs and drove in a pair. 

My Cousin Vinnie
Sophomore Vinnie Martin led UMass Lowell at the plate in the George Washington series, picking up six hits, six runs and drove in six runs. Martin also connected on two home runs and recorded five RBI in the River Hawks' 12-1 victory on March 9. He was named the America East Player of the Week, as well.

With his eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings at North Carolina, Joshua Becker earned his first career America East Rookie of the Week award.
 
In the Hole
The River Hawks were voted to the third spot in the America East Coaches' Preseason Poll, marking the highest selection for the program since joining the conference.

Let's Try it Again
Last season, on April 21, in the win against Maine, UMass Lowell suffered only the second no-hitter in program history, with the first came in the opening game of 1977, snapping a streak of 1,730 straight games with at least one hit. The River Hawks have a current streak of 69 games with a hit since.
 
Party of One
Last season, UMass Lowell played in 16 one-run games, including 10 consecutive straight from March 16-31, marking the longest stretch in the nation. The River Hawks went 8-9 in such games in 2018.
 
Notables
The River Hawks won 12 games at LeLacheur Park this season, setting the best mark in the Division I era ... UMass Lowell has recorded four Player of the Week awards (Marchena, Devenney, Martin, Young) and two Rookie of the Week accolades (Gallagher, Becker) ... 11 players made their River Hawk debuts in the Arizona series.
