River Hawks host Binghamton Friday on Senior Night to close out regular season

UMass Lowell will honor its 10-member graduating senior class in a pre-game ceremony

SCOUTING THE RIVER HAWKS: The River Hawks have posted a 5-8 overall record (2-3 AE), after a 13-12 overtime win at UMBC on Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive. The River Hawks currently sit in a tie for fourth place in the America East standings along with Hartford. UMass Lowell owns a 2-4 record at home so far this season in six home contests. UMass Lowell ranks third in the nation in man-up offense a 52.9% (18-for-34) on the season. The River Hawks have scored six man-up goals in the last four games. UMass Lowell has scored two or more man-up goals in seven of 13 contests this season.

Senior midfielder Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.) leads the team with a career-high 36 points (17g,19a), while sophomore attackman Jake Lining (Rochester, Mich.) has posted a career-high 19 goals to lead the River Hawks' roster. Junior attackman Dan Cozzi (Reading, Mass.) leads the team with 29 assists in 10 games and his 2.9 assists per game rank eighth nationally and leads America East. A total of five River Hawks have scored 10+ goals in 2019, including Highfield, Lining, Domenic Giachello (Somers, Conn.) with 17, Isaac Bot (Calgary, Alta.) with 16 and William Russo (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) with 12, all of which are new career-highs, respectively. Freshman face-off midfielder Liam McDonough (Groton, Mass.) ranks 12th in the nation with 8.1 ground balls per game, which leads all America East players. McDonough's 61% face-off win percentage is the 20th best total in all of Div. I men's lacrosse.

Senior goalie Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) has started 11 of 13 contests for the River Hawks, posting a 12.19 GAA and .512 save percentage, to go along with a 4-7 record. He has made 10+ saves in six of his last eight starts for UMass Lowell. Lardieri has amassed 79 stops in his last five contests for an average of 15.8 saves per game for the River Hawks over that span. Lardieri leads AE play with 15.2 save per contest. 

SCOUTING THE BEARCATS: Binghamton owns a 1-11 overall record (1-4 AE) coming into Friday night's regular-season finale. The Bearcats earned a 15-12 win against Hartford on Saturday afternoon. Joe Licata scored a game-high five goals in the win for Binghamton, while Kevin Winkoff and Andrew Arce added four and three goals respetively in the victory. Licata leads the Bearcats' roster in scoring with 22 goals and 34 points so far this season.

LAST TIME OUT: Junior attackman Isaac Bot (Calgary, Alta.) scored a career-high six goals, including the overtime winner to lead the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team to a 13-12 America East road victory at UMBC on Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium. Bot scored with 57 seconds left in the extra frame to pick the victory for the River Hawks, while Dylan Rhatigan (Holbrook, N.Y.) added another three goals and has tallied seven goals in his last two contests for UMass Lowell. Bot finished the game with a game-high 11 shots and eight shots on goal. Senior Cory Highfield (Georgetown, Ont.) and junior Dan Cozzi (Reading, Mass.) each amassed three assists on the day in the road victory. Freshman face-off midfielder Liam McDonough (Groton, Mass.) won 21-of-28 face-offs (75%) for the River Hawks, to go along with 14 ground balls. The game was tied at halftime, 5-5. In total, the game featured nine ties and five lead changes. Senior goalie Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) totaled 12 saves in his 11th start of the season for UMass Lowell. UMBC's Tommy Lingner recorded six saves in losing effort for the Retrievers. UMBC's Ryan Frawley totaled a team-high seven points and six goals in the loss.

HONORING THE SENIORS: The River Hawks will honor its 10-member graduating senior class on Friday night in a pre-game ceremony. Highfield, Lardieri, Russo, Blaine McMahon, Cliff Kurker, Ryan Morrison, Ryder Lessing, Gage Sevigny, Haydn Matarazzo and Wesley Harrington will all be honored before Friday's AE tilt.

THE PLAYOFF SCENARIOS: UMass Lowell secures No. 4 seed with a win over Binghamton and a UMBC win over Hartford. The Hawks currently own the head-to-head tiebreaker against the River Hawks, as both team currently sit at 2-3 in the standings (4th place).

BOT AND MCDONOUGH EARN WEEKLY AWARDS: Junior attackman Isaac Bot (Calgary, Alta.) and freshman face-off midfielder Liam McDonough of the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team were named America East Offensive Player of the Week and America East Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the conference office on Monday morning. Bot, who wins a conference award for the first time in his River Hawk career, posted a career-high seven points and six goals in the 13-12 overtime road win at UMBC on Saturday. He notched the game-winning tally with 57 seconds left in the extra frame, to go along with a game-high 11 shots and eight shots on goal. McDonough won Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in his UMass Lowell career, tying a career-high with 14 ground balls and winning 22-of-29 face-offs (75.8%) to go along with a goal in the road victory against the Retrievers.

DID YOU KNOW?: Liam McDonough with eight ground balls at St. John's on March 23rd broke the program's single-season ground ball record set by Will Puduski (70) in 2018. McDonough has amassed a team-high 105 ground balls in his freshman season.
