LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell baseball team suffered an 8-4 setback to Harvard on Tuesday night at LeLacheur Park.
The River Hawks' (9-29)
Joey Castellanos (Nutley, N.J.) drove in his first run of the contest in the second to put the hosts on top 1-0, scoring
Vinnie Martin (Lodi, N.J.) on a single to left.
"It's tough, obviously we're sick of losing but they beat us tonight and got their hits when they needed to," said Head Coach
Ken Harring. "Their big guy carried them and he's been having an unreal year. Our pitchers has good stuff tonight but were some victims of circumstances, and their pitchers were able to keep us off balance and limited our innings."
Harvard (21-10) put up a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings to jump in front 4-1. Devan Peterson had the big hit of the rally with a two-run home run to right field to extend the advantage to three runs.
Castellanos cut the gap to two on a double play ball that scored
Cam Climo (Billerica, Mass.) in the bottom of the fourth.
The Crimson answered with three runs, two in the sixth, to extend its advantage to 7-2. Trailing into the seventh frame,
Andrew Roden (Sherill, N.Y.) singled home Castellanos, and in the next turn at the plate a wild pitch scored
Trip McCaffrey (Mullica Hill, N.J.) from second to cut the gap to three runs.
The River Hawks conclude the non-conference week with a three-game set against Fairfield, set for Saturday and Sunday.
