River Hawks Tripped Up at UMBC, 11-5

BALTIMORE, Md. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-12, 1-5 AE) remained steady but was unable to withstand the UMBC (6-10, 4-2 AE) attack on Saturday afternoon, falling 11-5 at UMBC Stadium.

UMBC started off strong with a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes, but the River Hawks held the Retrievers scoreless through the next 18.

Samantha Blair (West Islip, N.Y.) was responsible for the River Hawks' first goal of the game at 3:27. She wrapped around from the left side, receiving a pass from Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.) and scoring her 12th goal of the season.

UMBC scored one more goal in the first half with two minutes remaining to take the 5-1 lead heading into halftime.

Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) scored just under six minutes into the second half on a free position attempt, and Keith kept the River Hawks' hopes alive at 16:58, wrapping around from behind the net to score and bring her team to within four.

The Retrievers answered back to take an 8-3 lead, but Gabby Torain (Glen Burnie, Md.) put on the wheels at the 14-minute mark, going coast-to-coast to earn her first career goal.

The River Hawks continued their scoring run as MacEachern fed Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) from down low, which led to Finelli's 13th goal of the season.

With UMass Lowell within three, UMBC went on its own run, tallying two goals in a minute-and-a-half span. The Retrievers would score one more with 35 seconds remaining to close out the game, 11-5.

Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) made 10 saves, her sixth double-digit save effort of the season. Megan Albertsen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Finelli both notched a caused turnover.
Finelli also topped the River Hawks' ground ball efforts with four, while Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.) and Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) each had a pair of draw controls.

The River Hawks close out their regular season at Hartford next Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m.
