HARTFORD, Conn. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (5-12, 2-5 AE) dominated Hartford (1-16, 0-7 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Al-Marzook Field, completing the season with a 19-5 victory.
"I'm very happy for our seniors to finish their careers on a high note," said Head Coach
Carissa Medeiros. "We had a total team effort today, and it's a great feeling to end with a win."
Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.) kicked off the River Hawks' afternoon with a goal at 25:24, and then followed it up with a free-position goal just 45 seconds later to take the two-goal lead.
The first half also featured goals by
Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.),
Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.),
Lauren Hopsicker (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) and
Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.). MacEachern finished the first 30 with four goals, while Keith dominated the half with five, as the River Hawks went into halftime with a 13-2 advantage.
Rebecca Idson (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y.) wasted no time in the second half, scoring her first goal of the game just 31 seconds in. MacEachern,
Hannah Rose (Framingham, Mass.) and
Olivia Massena (Cicero, N.Y.) tallied goals in the second half, as did
Megan Albertsen (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), who scored her first career goal, and
Kyra Lowenberg (Amherst, N.H.), who added her second career goal. Hartford would score two goals late in the game, but the River Hawks secured the 19-5 win.
With 13 first-half goals, the River Hawks broke their first-half scoring record and tied a single-half scoring record. Their 19 total goals also tied a program record. With five goals on the day, MacEachern concludes the season with a team-leading 44 goals, while Keith is close behind with 37.
Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.) leads the way in total assists with 19 after her three-assist game against the Hawks.
Kelly Moran (Newfields, N.H.) was the game-leader in draw controls with five, finishing the season with a single season record-breaking 82.
Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) ended the game with five saves, tying her lowest goals allowed of the season.
The River Hawks complete their season with a 2-5 America East record, their best conference record in program history.
