LOWELL, Mass. – River Hawk distance runner
Paul Hogan (Burlington Mass.) was named the America East Indoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete. The conference, Thursday, named a scholar-athlete in each of the six America East sponsored winter sports.
"He is so focused on what he wants to achieve," according to UMass Lowell Track and Field Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "He's driven. Whether it's doing core work or mileage or in the classroom or in a lab he's driven. Without question there is a correlation between why he is successful as an athlete and as a student."
Hogan, a Civil Engineering grad student, earned the distinction with a 3.57 cumulative grade point average combined with a dominating performance in longer distance races. He has been a regular on the Dean's List throughout his UMass Lowell career. He has been a frequent member of various AE All-Academic teams and was named the Cross Country Scholar-Athlete following the fall season. Hogan was the Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete last spring.
Hogan had a terrific indoor season setting the school record in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meters. He was named the Most Outstanding Male Track Performer at the America East Indoor Championships after winning the 3,000 and 5,000-meters. Hogan also earned the America East Coaches' Award and was named the USTFCCCA Northeast Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year.
