LOWELL, Mass. –
Undefeated in over a month, the UMass Lowell softball team (20-12, 8-0 AE) is set to defend its 12-game win streak during five contests this week. The River Hawks will first visit Boston University for a mid-week, non-conference twin bill Wednesday, April 17 at 3 p.m. before hosting UMBC for a three-game weekend series on Saturday-Sunday, April 19-20.

SENIOR DAY
The River Hawks will celebrate their senior class with a special ceremony between games on Friday. Sydney Barker (Upland, Calif.), Marisa Carrasco (Peoria, Ariz.), Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) and Brianna West (Fairfield, Conn.) will all be honored.

LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks went 5-0 last week to improve to 8-0 in America East play. The squad first defeated Hartford in both ends of a doubleheader on April 10 before sweeping a three-game series at Binghamton on April 13-14. Junior Melany Sheldon (Garbagnate, Milan, Italy) led the River Hawks with a .429 batting average, while redshirt-junior Casey Harding (Cheshire, Conn.) recorded team bests for hits (6) and RBI (6) with three home runs. Junior Courtney Cashman (Danvers, Mass.) was walked 10 times during the week, as well. Senior Kaysee Talcik (Shelton, Conn.) went 3-0 in the circle with a 2.25 ERA to lead the squad's pitching staff.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through 32 games, Courtney Cashman leads the River Hawks with a .556 batting average, 50 hits, 26 RBI, 29 runs scored, 12 doubles and eight home runs. Sydney Barker, who is batting .381, adds a .560 slugging percentage, as well, and sophomore Maria Moccio (Feeding Hills, Mass.) chips in with 21 RBI. Sophomore Lovina Capria (Deltona, Fla.) paces the pitching staff with a 12-5 record, a .230 ERA and 68 strikeouts.

MAKING HISTORY
With 20 wins so far in 2019, the River Hawks have secured their third straight 20-win season. This marks the fastest that the River Hawks have accumulated 20 wins since the 2012 season when the squad finished 34-18 at the Division II level. The team needs just two more wins to set a new Division I program record. Individually, with the game two win at Binghamton on April 13, Lovina Capria set a new Division I program record for a pitcher with 12 wins, breaking a record she first set last year with 11 victories.

GOING STREAKING
The River Hawks are in the midst of a 12-game win streak, which is the team's longest since 2011. Pitcher Lovina Capria boasts her own seven-game win streak, as well.

HOT BATS
As a team, the River Hawks are hitting .344 in league play.

WALK IT OUT
Courtney Cashman has already walked 30 times this season. That mark not only leads the conference, but is just two free passes shy of setting a new all-time, single-season record for the program. Additionally, her five walks at UConn on March 27 was a new program record.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT
The win at Bryant on April 3 marked the River Hawks' third extra-innings victory in a seven-day span. The team is now 15-9 in extras at the Division I level.

PLAYING THE LONG GAME
The River Hawks, who already have 26 home runs in 2019, put together a Division I program best six-game streak with at least one homer from March 19-31. Maria Moccio personally boasted a three-game home run stretch during that time, including the second walk-off long ball of her career against Maine (3.30). Courtney Cashman, who already totals a career-high eight dingers and her first career grand slam this season (at Yale, 3.19), is currently third on the program's all-time record list (20).

COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH
Maria Moccio roped two, game-winning hits in extra innings in just three days. She first propelled the River Hawks to an exciting, 8-7 victory in nine innings at UConn on March 27 with a RBI single to left field before sealing the walk off with a two-run blast in the bottom of the eighth against Maine on March 30.

NATIONAL NEWS
Courtney Cashman is currently leading the nation with a .556 batting average and a .656 on-base percentage. She is also sixth in the country for slugging percentage, boasting a .978 mark.

MILESTONE MOMENT TO WATCH
Kaysee Talcik needs just 14 more strikeouts to become the fourth pitcher in school history to surpass 300 career strikeouts and the first to do so at the Division I level.

CLOSE CALLS
The River Hawks have been within striking distance in the majority of their games so far this season, as six of the team's 12 losses have been decided by two runs or less. Of those contests, two went to extra innings.

WEEKLY AWARDS
Casey Harding became the fourth River Hawk to earn America East Player of the Week honors this season on April 16 with three home runs in a 5-0 week. Maria Moccio earned her first career Player of the Week nod on April 2 following a walk-off home run against Maine (3.30). Courtney Cashman has been named Player of the Week three times this season, most recently on March 26 after going 7-for-7 with her first career grand slam in the doubleheader at Yale (3.19). Sydney Barker was tabbed the Player of the Week, while sophomore Lovina Capria garnered a Pitcher of the Week nod to open the season, as both helped the River Hawks earn a pair of victories at the River City Leadoff hosted by Jacksonville from Feb. 8-10.
