LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior goalie
Grant Lardieri (Ada, Mich.) of the UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse team was named America East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning.
Lardieri recorded a career-high 22 saves in the 8-4 victory against Vermont at Cushing Field Complex on Saturday night in America East play. He allowed four goals on 26 shots by the Catamounts for an impressive .846 save percentage. Lardieri amassed eight saves in the second quarter and six in the third frame to pick up his third victory of the season on Saturday. His previous career-high was 19 saves on February 25, 2017 against Siena in a 18-13 win at Cushing Field Complex.
"I'm really proud of Grant, he's the consummate student-athlete," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Ed Stephenson. "Grant is one of the top students at the university and will pursue medical school after graduation. Regarding his performance, a double-digit save performance is really solid, but 20+ is remarkable. The defense played really hard in front of him, and when we had a breakdown Grant came up big."
He has posted a 3-5 record for the River Hawks in eight starts, to go along with a 11.64 GA and a .512 save percentage.
It marks the second time in his career he has been honored with America East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, April 6th at Hartford in America East play. Game time is 2 p.m. from Al-Marzook Field in West Hartford, Conn.
