STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (3-5) faced a strong Wagner squad on Sunday afternoon, falling 17-3 as the Seahawks allowed their fewest goal total in a game all season.
Wagner jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half, with four goals from Madeline Seims early on.
Jane Dudley (Duxbury, Mass.),
Kendyl Finelli (Southborough, Mass.),
Kristina Keith (East Kingston, N.H.) and
Paige MacEachern (Lynnfield, Mass.) all attempted shots through the first 30 minutes, but Wagner goalkeeper Kelsey Fee was able to make the saves.
UMass Lowell started strong in the second half, starting with a goal by
Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) after she intercepted a pass in the midfield and drove in to score. Keith followed up with a goal a minute later off a pass from
Cameron McKelvin (Westminster, Md.).
Wagner responded, though, rattling off eight-straight goals over the next 24 minutes.
The River Hawks closed out the game with a goal by McKelvin at 1:22, assisted by Keith, and the final score stood at 17-3. Keith notched her sixth multipoint game of the season, while McKelvin tallied her fifth.
Caster moved into second place all-time in draw controls at UMass Lowell, now with 78 in her career. She also led the way for the team with three caused turnovers.
Renee Gonzalez (Long Valley, N.J.) made nine saves, but the River Hawks were outshot 35-15.
The River Hawks remain on the road for one more game as they head to Fairfield, Conn., for a matchup at Sacred Heart on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
