DURHAM, N.H. -- Senior goaltender
Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) stopped 21 shots in the UMass Lowell Hockey team's 1-0 loss at New Hampshire on Friday night in Hockey East play at the Whittemore Center.
The River Hawks drop to 18-11-3 overall (12-7-3 HEA), while the Wildcats improve to 12-12-8 overall (8-9-5 HEA) with the victory.
"Overall, I thought it was an exciting hockey game, despite the low score," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin. "I thought both teams traded chances for awhile. I wasn't dissatisfied with our effort, the effort was there, the execution was not."
Jackson Pierson scored the lone goal of the game, his eighth of the season, to give the Wildcats the lead with just 2:53 left in the second period.
Senior goaltender
Christoffer Hernberg (Espoo, Finland) recorded 21 saves in his 15th start of the season, while Mike Robinson totaled 29 saves in his 10th win of the season and fifth career shutout for the Wildcats.
The River Hawks outshot UNH, 29-22 in the game, which included a 8-1 advantage in the third period.
Junior forward
Kenny Hausinger (Anchorage, Alaska) totaled a game-high four shots on goal in the losing effort.
UMass Lowell returns to action on Saturday, March 2nd in the series finale against New Hampshire on Senior Night. Game time from the Tsongas Center is 7 p.m. The River Hawks will honor their five-member graduating class in a pre-game ceremony.
