LOWELL, Mass. -- Junior goaltender Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) of the No. 17 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Wall stopped 26 of 27 shots (.963 save percentage) in the River Hawks' 3-1 road victory at No. 12 Northeastern on Friday night at Matthews Arena in Hockey East play. He recorded 12 of his 26 saves in the second period in his eight win of the season for UMass Lowell.

""Tyler made the most of his start at Northeastern His movements were sharp and his performance was solid throughout the game," said UMass Lowell Head Coach Norm Bazin. "He played like one of our lead guys. We are experiencing a great competition with both goalies earning their time in net."

He has registered a 8-6-1 record for the River Hawks in 15 starts so far this year with a 1.90 GAA and a .928 save percentage with three shutouts. Wall has allowed two goals or fewer in 11 of his 15 starts and has posted 25+ on seven occasions. Wall owns a 3-0 record in his last three starts for the River Hawks with a pristine 0.67 GAA and a .974 save percentage. He has stopped 75 of 77 shots during that time.

It marks his third Hockey East award of the season, including his second Defensive Player of the Week honor.
