River Hawks Wrap Up Regular Season with 60-41 Loss to Maine on Senior Night

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team fought hard but could not keep pace with Maine in the second half, falling 60-41 on Senior Night on Wednesday night.
"I thought the effort was there for the whole game but we just got tired in the second half," commented Head Coach Tom Garrick. "The seniors, on their night, gave an exemplary effort to win a basketball game but Maine was just the better team tonight."
Brianna Rudolph (Lynn, Mass.) moved into second in the program's Division I career scoring ranks with 14 points on the night. The fifth-year guard has now scored 848 points, surpassing Shannon Samuels' 836 from 2013-15.
The River Hawks complete the regular season with a 7-22 record with a 3-13 mark in conference play. Maine (21-7, 14-1) used a 15-1 run in the third quarter to take control of what was a 30-28 contest at the half.
Rudolph scored the first three buckets for the hosts, on three of Ren'Cia Rolling's (Lansing, Ill.) five assists, as the hosts jumped out to a 6-3 lead. Following five straight points for the Black Bears, the teams traded baskets until a 6-0 spurt for the River Hawks to end the frame, capped off by an Angel Agoth (Rochester, Minn.) basket, as the hosts took an 18-13 lead after the opening period.
The back and forth contest continued into the second quarter as neither team could build an advantage greater than four points. Linda Svenne (Riga, Latvia) capped off a contested first half with a jumper to set the two-point difference.
To open the third quarter Maine scored the first five points to gain momentum and carried that to an 18-5 scoring difference.
The Black Bears' Tanesha Sutton recorded a double-double with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds.
UMass Lowell will wait until the final regular season games around the league are played to see its postseason fate.
