The UMass Lowell softball team (2-3) heads to Charleston for five games at this weekend's Holy City Showdown. The squad will first square off against Marshall and Radford in neutral site games hosted by the College of Charleston on Friday, February 22. The River Hawks then take on UNC Wilmington and tournament co-host Charleston Southern on Saturday, Feb. 23 before wrapping up the weekend at College of Charleston on Sunday, Feb. 24.

LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks went 2-3 during the first week of the 2019 season at the River City Leadoff in Jacksonville, Fla. from Feb. 8-10. The squad swept a pair of games on opening day, defeating Providence, 7-4, and host Jacksonville, 6-1. UMass Lowell then erased an eight-run deficit to force extra innings against Georgia Tech, but fell, 9-8, in eight innings. The team also faced an 8-0 loss to Jacksonville and a 5-3 setback against Providence during the weekend.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through just five games, junior Courtney Cashman (Danvers, Mass.) leads the River Hawks with a .667 batting average, eight hits, five doubles and five runs scored. Senior Sydney Barker (Upland, Calif.) is first on the team with seven RBI and two home runs. Freshman Lovina Capria (Deltona, Fla.) paces the pitching staff with a 2.33 ERA and 11 strikeouts.

WALK IT OUT
Courtney Cashman's pitch selection at the plate has made her the early national leader for walks per game with 1.6 so far.

SENIOR SLUGGER
Sydney Barker started off strong at the plate, opening her senior season with three-run home runs on back-to-back days in Jacksonville. She boasted a 1.333 slugging percentage after a three-run bomb that helped lift her squad to a victory against tournament host Jacksonville on Feb. 8, as well as another seventh-inning jack that erased an 8-5 deficit and forced extra innings against Georgia Tech on Feb. 9.

WEEKLY AWARDS
Sydney Barker was tabbed the America East Player of the Week, while sophomore Lovina Capria garnered a Pitcher of the Week nod, as both helped the River Hawks earn a pair of victories at the River City Leadoff hosted by Jacksonville University from Feb. 8-10.

AROUND THE LEAGUE
As a team, UMass Lowell is currently second in the America East standings behind Binghamton, who is 3-1.
