LOWELL, Mass. – Graduate student
Christian Lutete (Silver Spring, Md.) and junior
Obadiah Noel (Frederick, Md.) each logged 16 points in a 74-62 setback for the UMass Lowell men's basketball team (6-7) against Boston University (5-7) on Saturday afternoon.
Â
"I felt right from the start we couldn't make shots and we're a team that makes shots," said Head Coach
Pat Duquette. "I'd like to think we're a team that can win games without shooting the ball well, but we weren't good enough to do that today. The shots just never fell. I didn't think we got as many easy looks and baskets as we usually do. I thought we were trying to do too much on our own."

Junior
Jordyn Owens (Montclair, N.J.) and freshman
Ron Mitchell (Philadelphia, Pa.) rounded out the double-digit scorers in the team's final non-conference home game of the year with 10 and 11 points, respectively. Mitchell matched a personal-best with four assists in the contest, as well.
Â
The Terriers took advantage of early opportunities and quickly created a double-digit margin. Mitchell worked hard on both ends of the floor, coming up with a put-back dunk and a big block to keep his squad in the contest. Lutete then sparked eight straight points to make it a one-possession game, 19-17, with 8:09 remaining in the first half.
Â
BU responded with a 9-2 spurt to pull away once again, this time 28-19, at 4:12. Freshman
Kalil Thomas (New Orleans, La.) forced a steal and finished with a three-point play before Noel banked in a layup and Mitchell knocked down the team's first three of the day to put the River Hawks back within three, although the Terriers scored the final bucket of the half to take a 32-27 edge into the break.
Â
The visitors tallied the first eight points coming out of halftime to inflate their lead to 13. Buckets from Lutete, and free throws by Noel and Owens cut the difference back to seven at 43-36 with 13:57 left to play. The River Hawks were not able to come any closer, though, as a 19-7 run helped the Terriers put the game out of reach.
Â
BU now leads the all-time series 5-3. The River Hawks close out non-conference play with a two-game road trip beginning at Loyola (Md.) on Friday, December 27 at 1 p.m.
