LOWELL, Mass. - The UMass Lowell women's basketball team, will head out on a two-game road trip this week, capped off by a Sunday afternoon back home at the Tsongas Center. The squad first visits Bryant on Monday, December 2 at 5 p.m. before traveling to Central Connecticut State on Thursday at 7 p.m., then will face LIU for a 1 p.m. tip off on Sunday. 
 
LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks are paced by two scorers in double-figures, led by senior Ren'Cia Rolling's 11.3 points per game. Freshman Denise Solis comes in a close second, averaging 11.1 points and 6.6 rebounds fresh off a 14-point game against Cornell. Freshman Jaliena Sanchez adds to the squad with 7.1 points per game and leads the team with 16 total assists. On the defensive side of the ball, Rolling has recorded a team-high 14 steals. As a unit, UMass Lowell is shooting 31.9 percent from the field, and 23.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
SCOUTING BRYANT
The Bulldogs enter Monday's matchup having dropped their last five out of six contests, following their 101-56 road loss against Minnesota on Nov. 26. Freshman guard Nicole Gallagher paces the squad with her 11.8 points per game and 19 total assists. Senior guard Sydney Holloway leads the team with 11.5 rebounds per game and nine steals, also sitting in second on the team with 10.8 points per game. The Bulldogs are shooting 36.8 percent from the field and 29.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
SERIES HISTORY VS. BRYANT
This will mark the 35th meeting between Bryant and the River Hawks. The Bulldogs hold a 23-12 edge in the all-time series, including a 4-1 mark in Division I. The last time the two teams saw action was in the 2018-29 season opener at the Tsongas Center, where the squad fell in a heartbreaking fashion, 58-57.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The River Hawks faced their seventh opponent of the season, dropping a 70-56 decision before the Thanksgiving break on Wednesday afternoon to Cornell. Despite the loss, the River Hawks saw their second contest this season with four different players in double digits. Solis lead the squad with 14 points and two blocks, while fellow classmate Shamyjha Price contributed 11 points and a career-high four steals. Sanchez found herself going 4-for-6 on the line, while dishing out a career-high six assists and Rolling secured her sixth 10-point game of the season.
 
NCAA TOP-100
Solis ranks 36th overall in the NCAA for free throws made, making 32 out of 45 attempts. Her best game came against Yale (11.21) where she went 6-6 on the line. Rolling is the only other River Hawk to rank in a statistical category, averaging 35.35 minutes per game, to take the 67th spot overall.
 
SOLIS STARTS SOLID
Solis has had a great start to her River Hawk career with four games with 10+ points. She registered a career-high 18 points at Colgate and a career-high nine rebounds against UMass. She has averaged 4.0 points in the first half of games and 7.1 points in the second half through seven games this season.
 
JUST ROLLING ALONG
Rolling has scored 10+ points in six of seven games this season, which included a season-high 16 points in the loss to Yale on Nov. 21. In the first four games of the year, she posted multi-steal efforts in each. Her 2.0 steals per game ranks fifth among America East players. She has made at least one 3-point field goal in each of the seven games this year. Her 28.6% 3-point field goal percentage leads the UMass Lowell roster.
 
A DIME A DOZEN
The River Hawks secured a season-high with 15 assists on 19 made field goals in the battle against Cornell. With her career-high six assists in the contest, Sanchez is averaging a team-best 2.3 dimes per game this season.
 
PROTECT THE HOUSE
Solis currently leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game for the River Hawks, which ranks sixth among America East players. Her 2.9 offensive rebounds per game is second in the conference, helping the squad earn the second spot overall with 12.6 offensive rebounds per game.
 
BANWAREESINGH OFF THE BENCH
After she put together a career game at Providence on Nov. 24, recording a personal-best 11 points and nine rebounds, rookie guard Kaylen Banwareesingh saw the most action in the next contest against Cornell pushing 35 minutes on the court. She secured a team-high seven rebounds, while shooting 50% in the paint for seven points.
 
FINDING THE RIGHT COMBO
The River Hawks have used a different starting lineup combination in six of the seven contests this season, with Denise Solis being consistent through every game. The last two lineups have featured appearances from Jaliena Sanchez, Kharis Idom, Ren'Cia Rolling, Chasidey Willis and Solis.
 
NEW FACES
Garrick's first recruiting class brings eight newcomers to the River Hawks in 2019-20. The group includes five freshmen (Denise Solis, Shamyjha Price, Jaliena Sanchez, Kaylen Banwareesingh, Kalkidan Mamo), two junior college transfers (Chasidey Willis, Tiahna Sears) and a transfer from VCU (Niya Johnson).
 
A LOOK BACK
The River Hawks ended the 2018-19 campaign with the programs most wins since 2014-15. Due to a tiebreaker they missed the America East Championship on the final day of the regular season. Graduate student Bri Rudolph led the team with 13.3 points per game to earn All-Conference Third Team honors, while Ren'Cia rolling set the program's DI single-season mark with 123 assists.
