WEST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Stanley Alves (Minas Gerais, Brazil) scored two second half goals, but the UMass Lowell men's soccer team saw Hartford comeback with two scores in three minutes to secure the 3-2 victory in the regular-season finale for both teams on Wednesday night.

The setback puts the River Hawks (8-7-1, 3-4-0) on the road in the America East Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at UAlbany. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Hawks (10-4-4, 4-2-1) earned the three-seed and will host Binghamton.

"I thought Hartford did well to take advantage of their opportunities," noted Head Christian Figueroa. "Early on the game got a bit crazy, almost forcing us into some mistakes that I thought we did well to deal with. Going down 1-0 was halftime was something we could have prevented, so I was happy to see the response from the group to start the second half. We got caught sleeping for a few minutes late in the game and it cost us three points. We'll have to make better decisions next time out if we want to have a better response."

Facing the 1-0 deficit following a score in the 36th minute, Alves drew the visitors even putting home Denis Petro's (Michalovce, Slovakia) corner in the 52nd minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Alves set a new career high with his sixth goal of the season to put UMass Lowell on top, 2-1. Petro recorded his sixth helper on the play, as well, as Alves deposited his pass beyond the Hartford keeper.

The hosts drew even in the 81st minute and took the lead for the final time in the 84th. Both teams had numerous opportunities, with Hartford holding advantages in shots (16-13) and attempts on target (8-6).

The quarterfinal matchup marks the third consecutive season that the River Hawks and Great Danes will square off in the postseason. Each team has picked up a win in the contests, but this will be the first tilt away from Lowell.
