ALBANY, N.Y. – A pair of third quarter goals proved to be the difference, as the UMass Lowell field hockey team (7-10, 1-4 AE) fell, 2-1, at America East foe UAlbany in the 2019 season finale on Sunday.

"We would like to thank the seniors for their outstanding commitment to our program," said Head Coach Shannon Hlebichuk. "Brooke, Anouk, Morgan, Eva and Leah have provided skill, heart and loyalty. Although this game or the season is not what any of us envisioned, we are proud of the team's performance over the course of the season. We were competitive in each and every game, and look forward to building on the tremendous level of hockey we played this year."

Sophomore Lindsey Kilpatrick (Manlius, N.Y.) tallied the lone goal in the contest for the River Hawks with an assist from freshman Sofie Knook (Amsterdam, Netherlands), who finishes the season with a team-best 17 points. In the cage, senior Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) totaled seven saves in the decision.

The River Hawks battled the whole way, as neither side was able to get on the board in the first 30 minutes of action. Knook gave the visitors an early opportunity on a corner in the eighth minute, although the Great Danes would take a 6-1 advantage on shots into the break.

Coming out of halftime, UAlbany was quick to tilt the field, scoring twice in the first three minutes of play. Katie MacCallum broke open the stalemate in the 31st minute when her shot from the top of the circle found the right side of the cage. Less than a minute later, Hanna Zarrilli finished a pass from Dana Bozek to make the score 2-0.

UMass Lowell took control of the momentum in the fourth and final quarter, forcing three corners before Kilpatrick converted on the fourth in the 57th minute with a shot from the wing, cutting the lead in half. Sophomores Isobel Sargent (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and Jenna Berger (Waterloo, Ontario) followed with shots of their own in the final minutes, but goalkeeper Melissa Nealon made the stops to secure the 2-1 decision for her squad.

The River Hawks close 2019 at 7-10 overall and 1-4 in America East action.
