River Hawks Square off Against Yale, Before Sunday Tilt with Providence

LOWELL, Mass. -- Coming off their road loss to Big 12 member Kansas, the River Hawks are back at home as they host Yale in a 7 p.m. tilt at Costello Athletic Center on Thursday, before heading out against Providence on Sunday night.
 
LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
Freshmen standout, Denise Solis has paced the 2019-20 squad averaging 11.8 points per game, while returning lead rebounder, Bri Stiers continues to snag boards averaging 8.0 per game. Quick hands by senior guard Ren'Cia Rolling puts her in the top spot averaging 2.75 steals per game.
 
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs enter Thursday's contest with a 1-1 record, after a home turf advantage win over Quinnipiac 63-59 on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Senior guard Roxy Barahman leads the squad in points averaging 16.5 per game, while sophomore forward Camilla Emsbo has grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds. Guards, Tori Andrew and Megan Gorman have proven to be valuable assets, each posting eight assists on the season.
 
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence is also coming off a home-court win, after defeating Boston college 76-60 on Sunday, Nov. 17. The Friars are currently 3-0 on the season, with the sophomore class dominating in points (Kaela Webb, 18.0 ppg.) and rebounds (Mary Baskerville, 9.5 ppg.). The River Hawks will look to notch their first win over the Friars since their first meeting in 2013-14.

NEW FACES
Garrick's first recruiting class brings eight newcomers to the River Hawks in 2019-20. The group incldues five freshmen (Denise Solis, Shamyjha Price, Jaliena Sanchez, Kaylen Banwareesingh, Kalkidan Mamo), two junior college transfers (Chasidey Willis, Tiahna Sears) and a transfer from VCU (Niya Johnson).
 
ALL FOR ONE - ONE FOR ALL
In last week's contest against Kansas (11.17), every River Hawk that entered the game recorded at least one rebound. Forwards, Bri Stiers and Denise Solis paced the game with each recording eight rebounds, while freshman guard Shamyjha Price grabbed seven.
 
CONNECT FOUR
Four different River Hawks found themselves with double digits in the home opener vs. Massachusetts (11.10). Led by the freshmen class, Denise Solis recorded the teams highest with 17 points, while Shamyjha Price found herself with 11 and Jaliena Sanchez with 10. Returning Guard, Ren'Cia Rolling collected on her 15th 10 point game. 
 
PROTECT THE HOUSE
Bri Stiers currently sits at the top of the America East conference standings with 23 defensive rebounds, averaging 5.8 a game. Overall, Stiers is ranked second in total rebounds averaging 8.0.
 
LAY IT ALL ON THE LINE
Attempting 16 free throws over the past four games, Shamyjha Price has connected on 14 of them for the team's second best percentage of .875
 
SECOND HALF SURGE
In the home opener against Massachusetts, the River Hawks scored a team-high 43 points in the second half to outscore the Minutewomen in both the third (22) and fourth quarter (21).
 
FLYIN' SOLO
Denise Solis gave the River Hawks their only lead of the game against Colgate (11.10) by going on a 9-0 solo run. Solis recorded a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds in the contest.  
 
THE PRICE IS RIGHT
Following her breakout game against Colgate (11.10) Shamyjha Price outdid her personal best during the home opener against Massachusetts (11.14) scoring 11 points and going 5-for-6 on the line.
 
STIERS FOR 200
After grabbing a career-high 11 rebounds in the season opener against Boston College (11.5), Bri Stiers collected 18 more over the next two contests to hit her 200 career-mark in the home opener vs. Massachusetts (11.10).
 
SANCHEZ SINKS IT
In her collegiate debut on Nov. 5 against Boston College, Jaliena Sanchez pushed the full 40 minutes on the court making six of her eight free throws, totaling a personal-best and game-high 12 points.
