LOWELL, Mass. -- Senior goaltender
Tyler Wall (Leamington, Ont.) of the UMass Lowell Hockey team has been named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Wall registered 73 saves on 78 shots (.936 save%) in the three-point weekend for the River Hawks. He recorded 33 stops in the 3-3 come from behind tie on Friday night against Boston University at the Tsongas Center in the Hockey East opener. Wall followed that up with a 40-save effort, which tied a career-high on Saturday night at No. 7 Providence College in the 3-2 overtime win at Schneider Arena. Wall totaled 18 saves in the third period and overtime on Saturday against the Friars.
"Our first weekend of Hockey East play was very competitive as we would all expect," said UMass Lowell Head Coach
Norm Bazin. "We needed our go to guys playing at the top of their games. One such player was
Tyler Wall who made several key saves both nights for us to come up with valuable points in league play. He continues to show his high compete level in crucial situations while keeping his poise, a sign of his maturity for our team."
He has posted a 4-1-2 record, to go along with a 1.52 GAA, a .947 save percentage and one shutout in seven starts for UMass Lowell this season. His .947 save percentage ranks tied for third in the nation and his 1.52 GAA ranks fifth nationally.
It marks the second time this season and seventh time in his UMass Lowell career that Wall has been honored as the league's Defensive Player of the Week.
