LOWELL, Mass. – Head Coach
Ken Harring has finalized his coaching staff for the 2020 season with the hiring of
Kevin Barnaby as an assistant coach.
Barnaby, who was a volunteer coach under Harring from 2013-15, posted 71 wins over the past four campaigns as the head coach at Fitchburg State to rank second all-time in program history. He was also named the 2019 MASCAC Coach of the Year after setting 10 program records, including single-season victories with 26.
"I would like to thank Coach Harring for giving me this opportunity," remarked Barnaby. "I am very excited to be back, and look forward to getting back to work."
Barnaby's Falcons advanced to the MASCAC Tournament all four seasons, including an appearance in the title game in 2019. Following his first season at the helm in 2016, he was named the league's coach of the year as his squad went 18-20 with a 10-4 mark in conference play.
"Having Kevin return to UMass Lowell baseball is a huge plus for the program, as he knows what it takes to win at this level and was here for our first two seasons of DI as a volunteer," commented Harring. "His experience as a Head Coach at Fitchburg State, his attention to detail and overall passion for winning and developing young men, will help us make the next step in our quest for an America East Championship."
Prior to his first stint with the River Hawks, Barnaby spent time with the Wachusett Dirt Dogs of the FCBL and served on the Falcons' staff in 2012.
Barnaby graduated from and played two season of college ball for Worcester State ('07), helping lead the Lancers to the MASCAC championship and NCAA Regional berth in his final season. He resides in Leominster, Mass. with his wife, Brittany, and son Cole.
