CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Behind two goals from
Roko Prsa (Zagreb, Croatia) the No. 22 UMass Lowell men's soccer team picked up its third straight shutout win with a 2-0 effort at Harvard on Thursday night.
The game's start was delayed 40 minutes because of inclement weather but it did not seem to slow down the action.
"I thought it was a good overall performance," remarked Head Coach
Christian Figueroa. "We took a good step tonight and took care of the things we needed to work on, even after the good results last week. It was a great response tonight from the guys after a tough opponent."
Both teams managed pressure in the opening minutes, but as the half went on the visitors began to assert themselves with a string of corners and opportunities.
Senior
Zach Rowell's (Haverhill, Mass.) hardest test of the night came in the third minute but he was able to make a kick save on a mini breakaway for Nico Garcia-Morillo.
Minutes after the Crimson made a goalie switch, Prsa was able to send a heel flick just under the crossbar for the game's opening score.
Mayele Malango (Kinshasa, Congo) poked a loose ball that just went over a defender's head and Prsa quickly picked up his first goal of the season.
UMass Lowell outshot Harvard, 9-3, in the opening 45 minutes and had four corners.
The visitors continued to up the pressure in the second half and after a bundle of opportunities, finally cashed in on Prsa's second of the night in the 57th minute.
After a Crimson foul, Prsa took a free kick from 30-yards out went untouched in the box, bounced and hit off of Jorma Gorns hands before falling into the net.
The contest's final numbers included a advantage for UMass Lowell in shots (19-6), shots on goal (8-3) and corners (10-1).
The River Hawks return home for a Sunday night clash against Northeastern at 7 p.m.
