No. 19 River Hawks Return Home to Open America East Slate Against Vermont

LOWELL, Mass. –
 The No. 19 UMass Lowell men's soccer team looks to rebound following the first loss of the season, and open up America East play, as the River Hawks host Vermont on Saturday evening. 
 
Last Friday, Stanford held off the visitors in the 1-0 win, and two days later the River Hawks forced a 1-1 draw at California with Roko Prsa's (Zagreb, Croatia) 66th minute goal. 
 
RIVER HAWK LEADERS
Stanley Alves (Minas Gerais, Brazil) still paces the team with four scores and eight points, with three game-winning goals, while Prsa is the only other River Hawk with multiple goals (3g, 1a). Renato Kauzlaric (Zagreb, Croatia) and Mayele Malango (Kinshasa, Congo) have a pair of helpers. Between the pipes, Zach Rowell (Haverhill, Mass.) is 5-0-2 with 16 saves and a 0.28 GAA, in addition to four shutouts.
 
I LIKE MY SHEETS CLEAN
Stanford's lone goal snapped UMass Lowell's program record consecutive shutout minutes mark at 403:33. Entering the weekend, the River Hawks rank sixth with a team goals against average of 0.351.

SOARING IN THE NATION
Rowell is ranked fourth in the country in GAA, as well as being tied for fifth in clean sheets and save percentage. Alves sits in a tie for fifth with his three game-willing tallies, tied atop the conference, as well. 

HAWK THE VOTE
UMass Lowell has been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll for 21 weeks since 2016. The River Hawks are also the top team in the Northeast poll for the second consecutive week. 

SCOUTING VERMONT
- At 6-2-0, UVM received 12 votes in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25
- The Catamounts are 5-0 at home, while both losses come on the road
- Geo Alves (5g, 1a) and Justin Freitas (4g, 3a) are tied atop lineup with 11 points
- Clay Thomas is 4-1-0 in net with a 0.63 GAA and three shutouts
- In 2017, Vermont picked up its first ever win against UMass Lowell, 2-1, in Burlington
- A year removed from winning regular-season title, the Catamounts were pegged fourth in 2018 Preseason Poll

HOME, SWEET HOME
Over the last 20 games at Cushing Field, the hosts are 16-1-3 dating back to 2016. The River Hawks are 25-8-4 in the Mill City since 2014.

Earlier this month, Basic was named as one of 32 players on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watchlist. The MAC Hermann in college soccer's most prestigious individual award.

Coming off his first career shutout, Rowell was named the America East Defensive Player of the Week (8.20).

PLAYING FAVORITES
For the second consecutive season, the River Hawks were picked as the favorite to win the America East, voted on by the coaches.
