River Hawks Name Captains for 2018-19 Season

9/14/2018 12:18:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Hockey Head Coach Norm Bazin announced today that senior Connor Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) and junior Ryan Lohin (Chadds Ford, Pa.) will serve as Captains of the River Hawks for the 2018-19 campaign.

"Both Connor and Ryan served as alternative captains last year," said Head Coach Norm Bazin.  "Those experiences will help them deal with their added responsibilities as captains this year. They both are highly respected by their peers and will serve important roles in helping our team prepare for this upcoming season."

Lohin led the River Hawks in scoring a year ago with nine-goals and 25-points and is the team leader in career points with 54.  The Tampa Bay draft pick has never missed a game in his collegiate career and has a consecutive game streak that stands at 77.

Wilson is coming off his best offensive season.  He accumulated 16-points including eight-goals and led the club with three game-winning goals.  Wilson has 14-goals and 33-points in his three years as a River Hawk.

Junior defenseman Mattias Göransson (Slottsbron, Sweden) will serve as alternate captain.

"We are also proud to announce that Mattias Göransson has been named as an alternate captain for this upcoming season," according to Bazin.  "Mattias will help anchor a young group on defense as they face a challenging schedule."

Göransson was part of a defense corp that was among the highest scoring in the nation.  The defenseman contributed four goals and 13-points.

The River Hawks hit the ice Sunday, October 7th, 1 p.m. for an exhibition match up against Acadia. They open the regular season with a pair of games October 12 and 13 against non-conference opponent RIT, at the Tsongas Center, as part of Homecoming Weekend.
