KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- UMass Lowell midfielder Jakov Basic (Zagreb, Croatia) begins his senior season as one of 32 players named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, announced today by the United Soccer Coaches.
 
The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year's winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
 
Basic had a breakout season in 2017, tying for the team lead with four goals and 11 points, en route to being named the America East Midfielder of the Year.
 
"We're excited for Jakov and happy to see him receive this recognition," commented Head Coach Christian Figueroa. "He has been working hard over the last few years and is looking forward to making a positive impact this upcoming season. He's a dedicated player who wants the team to succeed first and foremost; it's just the type of person he is." 
 
The Zagreb, Croatia nativealso earned a spot of the United Soccer Coaches All-East Region First Team and the All-ECAC Honorable Mention accolades. Basic is the second River Hawk to appear on the list, following Wuilto Fernandes' nod in 2015.
 
The River Hawks open up the 2018 season at home against Massachusetts on August 24 at 7 p.m.
